What's Happening in Mrs. Campbell's Class
4.24-4.28 We are in the home stretch! We are reading a novel and making a Bloom Ball to review all the elements of a narrative. First and second block are reading Hatchet and third block is reading My Side of the Mountain. Both books involve a child surviving in the wild. We are learning all types of survival skills! As we read, we have a different focus each day, and we complete a side of our Bloom Ball. This is what our final product will look like:
11.14-11.22 We are working on text structure and citing evidence from the text this week and the next week. Just a reminder: a total of 8 summaries are due by January 11th. Remember, school is out for Thanksgiving break from 11.23-25. Also, our library needs more choices for students. They are raising money through this website : https://www.perma-bound.com/book-boosters/bakerlibrary.

We will be reviewing fact and opinion and author's purpose. Remember, there is no school on Tuesday. On Friday, we will be having an assembly for Veteran's Day! Vets are invited to come and eat breakfast with their child/grandchild/niece/nephew.
10.24-10.28 We are working hard to revise and edit our writing! We will be publishing our narratives this Thursday and Monday of next week. We will spend time sharing our stories with each other to show off all our hard work!

3-10-17 I am back from maternity leave! I had such a warm welcome back! We are working on argument writing for the next few weeks. Next week, we will be taking our argument assessment, reading MAP test, and language MAP test. On Tuesday and Wednesday, please make sure you get plenty of sleep and eat a good breakfast so that you are ready to do your best on the MAP test. TWELVE SUMMARIES ARE DUE ON MARCH 16th!
10.18-10.21 We are finishing our last quick write and then the revising and editing process will begin! We are also starting small groups this week.
10.3-10.7 We will begin our immigrant narrative this week! We will visit stations in the library so students can experience what immigrants went through to get to America through Ellis Island. We will take this narrative through the entire writing process.
Students brought home a yellow sheet last week detailing the number of summaries that they have completed so far and their current MAP score. If you did not receive it, please let me know and I will send home another one. Students were to get this signed by 9.30.

We had a great day practicing plotting events on a plot diagram using Read Write Think!
September 6-9
Remember, there is no school on Monday! :) Please read at least 20 minutes a day, even on the weekends! Students should have two summaries turned in by September 16th to stay on schedule. If they are reading a longer book that may count for 2 or more summaries, they can let me know what they are reading and I'll make sure to make a note. Next week, we will continue with plot diagrams and start adding sensory details to our writing. Have a fun and safe weekend!

8-17-16 What a great first day! We spent time in each of Team Succeed's classrooms learning about 6th grade procedures. Starting tomorrow, they will be on the normal schedule for the year. In Language Arts, we will be spending time getting to know each other, learning classroom procedures, and begin reading our classroom read aloud. Starting Monday, students will be expected to read 20 minutes EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. Once they finish a book, they are to write a summary about that book and turn it in. They need 16 this year (4 each 9 weeks). Click on the Book Summaries tab above for more information and examples of summaries.
